Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr aka “Shatta wale” is an actual Sound Engineer, music producer, songwriter and entertainer that has done quite a bit over the course of his career. The 35-year-old entertainer was born in 1984 in Accra, Ghana.
At an early age, Wale had an interest in Dancehall music and Afrobeats, as a child, his father introduced him to the Jamaican culture by playing Reggae records in the house and also continuously traveling with him to the UK to meet his relatives who were half Jamaicans.. In the 2004, he began his rise out of obscurity with his single, “Moko Hoo”, which features Tinny.

How Did Shatta Wale Become Famous?
Shatta wale became well known in the local community with his hit single, “Moko Hoo”, which featured fellow Ghanaian musician Tinny in 2004 using Bandana as his stage name. The song earned him a nomination at the Ghana Music Awards that year. Bandana followed with the hit songs “No Problem” and “Obaa Yaa”. At this point, he was receiving heavy rotation on radio and was backed by a fan base that shot him into the mainstream Ghanaian music scene. Despite his prominence, Bandana went missing in the music circus in Ghana. In 2009 he rebranded name from Bandana to Shatta Wale, he started a new career which largely bothers on dancehall in a Jamaican style of production in Nima, a small community in Accra, Ghana, a place that harbors a lot of Muslim youth and ghettos. It was there he amassed a fanbase, who were influenced by him and felt empowered by his songs. He started gaining slow attention again with songs like “Telephone No” “Anastasia” “My Eyes Pon Di Money” and others.
After earning those credits, Shatta turned to curating albums. His Second studio album was called “After the Storm”… the Album and it was released in 2016.
Another curated album came in 2017 called African Takeover and it contained a song that became hit in Ghana and beyond. Shatta wale continued to release these curated albums which led to his name becoming more and more well-known and equated with terrific music.
Soon, people were seeking out his advice and looking to him as an expert in the Dancehall world. He released his Reign album in 2018 and it also had major commercial excess including topping chart that saw him come to international attention again this year.
In some months after that, the albums that were released contained songs that charted and gained status and made him a household name again when it came to Dancehall music.
While these hit songs and album successes were certainly the biggest part of what made Satta wale famous, they were not the only thing. He was able to turn his fame and success at producing and curating albums into other media ventures that allowed him to gain recognition and respect the same as any other Dancehall music professional.

One of the primary focuses for Wale is music. That’s where he got his start and it is where he continues to focus his efforts today. His relationship with music extends far beyond the curating albums that he does and into songwriting, producing songs and helping other artists achieve success.
However, it is those curated albums that have been released throughout the years that have shown how adept he is at choosing the right music to go on an album and knowing what the market wants.
